The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle Book 1)

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is a fantasy epic of epic proportions. The first parts of the novel are not exactly my favorite. I am not a musician or entertainer and a lot of this book touches on music and theatre. Having said that, the foundations it lays at the beginning of the book come into play later. Some of the “worst” parts (to me) came back to be some of the better passages later on.

The authors prose is often… beautiful. Patrick is able to build a beautiful world and paint pictures in your mind that few other authors can do.

This novel is certainly a long one, so saddle up. The formatting is a little different as well. Each chapter may be part of the main character retelling stories or it may have shifted to the present. It’s not that difficult to figure out, but certainly something to remember as you read.

Overall, I would highly recommend the book! Even if you’re like me and don’t fully appreciate the world of music, there are plenty of other reasons to read The Name of the Wind.
