Age of Death: Book Five of the Legends of the First Empire

He did it again! Age of Death by Michael J. Sullivan is a wonderful read. I was a bit weary of how the writing might tackle a topic as intense as, you know – the underworld/Hell/the afterlife/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, but he did it!

Much of this story follows the same band of outcasts from the previous book as they descend into Elan (the afterlife). It’s paced well, with minimal or zero lulls in the story. Just as the last book, the author hit his stride and is clearly on a fast break towards the end goal, which I love. A few familiar faces return as well, which only reiterates my comments on starting this series from the beginning. On Amazon, this book is compared to Dante’s Divine Comedy and that’s not wrong.

I already pre-ordered the next book (literally the day it was available on Kickstarter) and can’t wait to see what happens next!
